July 14 Day 19t

Today was a pretty interesting day. There were lightning strikes throughout the whole day, but no rain. It was like a firework in the sky every so often. In lab, I observed a lab member of mine do a RT PCR. The protocol was almost exactly the same as in the U.S which is good because then I have less likelihood of messing up. My mentor told me not to come into lab tomorrow, and instead just work on finishing the primers for the miR-9 target genes. Score. This frees up the morning. Me and Jamie are planning on going to the silk market tomorrow morning, which is famous for its knockoffs. Should be a lot of fun.

In Chinese class today, we saw a movie called Mao’s Last Dancer. Its based on a true story about a Chinese dancer who travels to Houston to perform for the Houston theater group. Its there he falls in love with a girl and the American culture. It was a very good and touching movie and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning about Chinese life during the cultural revolution.
