July 15 Day 20

We woke up bright and early, and left the door at 9 am to go to the Silk Market. It took us an hour subway ride and about a mile walk but we finally made it.

Supposedly there are over 70,000 merchants in the building, and speaking from personal experience, it seems to be about right. You can find pretty much anything in there from rolexes to rugs to silk scarves. Each floor is dedicated to one thing.

You MUST BARGAIN. The merchants purposely give inflated prices because they expect people to bargain. At one shop selling Louis Vuitton bags, they told us 1200 kuai for one which is absurd, although it did look like the real thing. After about 30 minutes of bargaining and pretending to leave, we got the price down to 190 kuai. We had to leave at 3 pm after only seeing 2 of the 13 floors because we were so tired from bargaining. We shall we back though!
